Applied Missions
The course is taught following the unique curriculum design of EduVenture. The goal is to relate insights from Cross Cultural Communications, Community Development, Spiritual Formation, and Physical Education in a holistic integrative approach. Though Missions is the primary focus of our study, it is not our goal to entice students to become missionaries nor is it to dissuade them from it. It is our view that the Holy Spirit guides individuals into the work He has for them to do. What we seek to do is expose students to various approaches to Missions and its historical development, while considering relevant theological and Biblical concepts. We want students to think more precisely about what Missions is and what it is not, as they have opportunities to live cross-culturally.
Course Themes:
- The history of missions in the world and in the host culture
- The integration of Cross Cultural Communication, Spiritual Formation, Physical Education, and Community Development into biblically-based principles of Missions, applicable in multi-cultural environments.
- A real taste of mission work gained by reading biographies and interacting with missionaries.
Course Goals: By the end of the course each student shall:
- Depict a concise Biblical definition of missions.
- Identify at least 5 models of cross-cultural ministry.
- Describe how he or she can do cross-cultural ministry that includes both personal gifts and limitations.
- State examples of successes and failures of short-term and long-term Missions.
- Have a greater understanding of mission work around the world.
- State how other courses (academic disciplines) are integrated with Missions.
- Have the tools to be able to work well within a team, interacting in ways conducive to the expansion of God’s kingdom.
