Spiritual Formation
Spiritual growth cannot be measured by academic achievements. EduVenture emphasizes experiential learning which is also sometimes difficult to quantify in traditional terms. Students are expected to take full advantage of this opportunity for experiential mentored learning by participating with enthusiasm in the various activities and disciplines including devotional time and study, fasting, solitude, meditation, service, prayer, scripture memorization, community worship, discussion, journaling and discipleship groups/confession. Our Father is waiting for us to desire relationship with Him.
The on-site professor introduces the course and facilitates all class sessions. The mentors guide students through the journaling process and hold students accountable through Growth Group as well as private informal conversations. Students will share, pray and support each other in their individual spiritual formation with the guidance of their mentors and the encouragement of their peers.
Course Themes:
· How to nurture and receive desire to know God intimately
· The Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7)
· The spiritual disciplines (prayer, fasting, solitude, meditation, self-examination, etc.)
· Truths about the believer’s identity in Christ and how to mature spiritually
· Strategies of the Enemy and how to walk in victory over Satan’s forces
· Receiving God’s grace through his gift of salvation and on a daily basis in life
Course Goals: By the end of the course students will be able to:
1. Describe the importance of a desire for God as necessary for relationship with Him, and to take steps to increase that desire.
2. Quote the entire Sermon on the Mount from memory.
3. Practice 6 disciplines on a weekly basis.
4. Recognize ways in which the enemy works against Christians and be able to name 10 footholds used by the enemy.
5. Live a life demonstrating that service flows from knowing God and knowing Him is learned partially from service. Students will demonstrate their knowledge that obedience and faith are interdependent by serving within our smaller and larger communities.
